Life is not Fair!
“THAT’S NOT FAIR!”
How many times had I heard that from one my my children (when they were young and still at home) when someone else had eaten the last piece of cake or stayed up ten mnutes longer than the other or been given a little bit more attention when they were sick?
Too bad that Jonah didn’t have his mother around to remind him that life’s not fair! Jonah thought that God should punish those bad old Ninevits, just like moms or teachers or somebody are supposed to punish the bullies on the playground or the kid who chews gum in the classroom or bosses who are supposed to have their staff’s best interests at heart.
But, surprise, surprise, Jonah! God didn’t want it that way with Nineveh. He wanted to save the city. Yet Jonah wanted it His way – the righteous and God-fearing people, like Jonah, were to get all the blessing. And, the wicked people, like the Ninevites, were to be destroyed.
When things didn’t go Jonah’s way, he sat down and pouted and could easily have muttered under his breath, ‘It’s just not fair!’ (Does any of this sound familiar to you? 🙂
Life isn’t always the way we want it to be;
it doesn’t always seem fair,
especially in our eyes or from our perspective, that is.
However, all is fair and just in God’s eyes! We must resist the urge to doubt or judge like Jonah.
I know ……., easier said than done 🙂
Our part is to have faith and believe that God is just and all is in His control…… whether or not we … think,
“IT’S JUST NOT FAIR!”
Jonah 4: 3-4
Now, O Lord, take away my life, for it is better for me to die than to live.”
But the Lord replied, “Have you any right to be angry?”.
