Self examination – do you understand yourself
It is a fact that there are many people who do not understand themselves. They spend long and agonising hours in self-examination – they study psychology or regularly visit psychologists to arrive at a better and more profound understanding of their personality.
Unfortunately, their studies only cause more confusion, sometimes even resulting in spiritual disaster. Psychological self-examination can lead to self-centredness, which in turn results in frustration ad dissatisfaction with the quality of your life.
In order to understand yourself, you have to accept ad appreciate the fact that God created you in His image! This realisation will bring you in harmony with yourself. If Christ Jesus is Lord of your life and if you give Him priority over everything else in your life, you will discover that your personal life acquires meaning and purpose because of your intimate relationship with Him. Consequently you will also experience the fulfilment of getting to know your true self. Under the authority of Christ and the guidance of His Holy Spirit, it becomes possible to understand yourself.
It is impossible to have daily communion with Christ through prayer and contemplation and still to feel confused and lonely.
By getting to know Christ Jesus, you also get to know yourself.
A humble knowledge of yourself is a truer way to God than the most profound search for knowledge.
