You are watched .. continually ..
Unless you are a hermit, you constantly live under the scrutiny of many people. You are part of a family circle or of a business world in which you deal with different kinds of people. You live as part of a community and you many even be part of a sports group. Wherever you are and whatever you do, there are always people who are forming an opinion about you, and therefore, you are constantly busy building up a character. There are people who say then don’t give a hoot about what others say about them, but this is often nothing more than a shield for a bruised spirit and feelings of inferiority.
Serious and sensible people, however, are deeply aware that reputation is a valuable asset and therefore they work hard at making their name synonymous with truth, honesty and integrity. Now that I am older and more mature, I realise the significance of this.
Establishing and developing a honourable name seems like a time-consuming task to some people. The values of society make it appear to be an impossible task and an unattainable ideal, but the truth of the matter is that it is the most rewarding task you can ever undertake. I brings you peace and creates a feeling of well-being and peace of mind, because such a life is pleasing to God.
Make honour more important than profit – honesty more noble than cheap popularity. Remember that a good name is worth more tan great riches. Then you will make the exciting discovery that a honourabe life is the most rewarding life that can be lived, because it is to the honour of God!
Character, is who you are in the dark.
