Nature, Scripture and Flesh!
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory … ~John 1:14
The three wise men searched for Him in nature, in the stars, then they came upon Him in a manger. The enchantment of the stars is now past. The light of God shines through triumphantly when they finally stood before the incarnate Word: the shining Morning Star!
We look beyond the stars to the Word in the stable, where we surrender ourselves unconditionally in worship – the gold of our love, the incense of our prayers, the myrrh of our offerings. In the stable we learn what the stars cannot tell us – that the earth became the centre of the universe on this specific day.
And, when the stars die out, one day, the eternal day of God will dawn. Then, God will no longer address us through the stars, nor through the Word, but will speak to us eternally and uninterruptedly through the incarnate Word! Jesus, Emmanuel!
You can no more diminish the splendour of God
than a possessed person can wipe out the sun by carving “darkness” on the walls of his cell.
